Dynamic remembrance has been recognized as making a strong neuron connection in the memory. And flashcards can easily enable repetition, it is the best and the easiest means to build memory- improving the recall experience.
  • Flashcards permit self-reliance-based replication   –  As the flashcards are loose cards, rather than fat books or documents, anyone can pick selective cards to repeat them. The rehearsal using these flashcards is the most scientifically proven way to memorize known as self-reliance-based replication.

How to use flashcards with toddlers?

There are 3 ways how we can use flashcards to appeal to toddlers without making it a tedious activity. They are

  • Hearing learners: In most of the classes we find these hearing learners, the teacher observes that they don’t pay attention to the flashcards session but when assessed, to their amazement they know everything taught in the class. They need to hear the words loud and clear to learn and understand. Toddlers with auditory learning are open to the knowledge offered to them when read out aloud.
  • Graphical learners: There are toddlers who like to observe and learn through visuals and pictures. They are most evident beneficiaries of flashcard learning. These kids sit through the session, read and learn by looking at the flashcards.
  • Tactile learner: These children learn through physical activities or moving thing rather than listening or watching flashcards. It is most commonly mistaken that these children do not answer flashcards and it is difficult for them to sit through the session in one place. For such toddlers, learning can be made more interesting by combining movement and games. Do be disheartened if your child is a tactile learner as here are a few activities for you to try at home to teach them.
  •  Sing, move and spell words:  When you try to teach your child to read and spell, create a song for the word. If possible print the lines  of the song, show it to the child and encourage him to sing along. Similar way create alphabet cards and make the child jump on it as they learn to spell words. Most of the children have reading difficult learning easily by this as flashcards can be used in creative way to making it more appealing with this activity.
  • Let’s fish words :   Stick a magnet to the flashcards and make a simple magnet rod. Cheer your kid to read aloud the words along without and then to fish the words you called out. This activity is very catchy with the kids.
  • Match word cards with associated picture cards: Flash the word and its associated picture cards to your child quickly. Place the picture cards and ask your child to match the word card with the right picture. It is even easily if you can give them some real toy to match with the words. If you are teaching him to spell words or recognise letters, kid can re-arrange the alphabet cards as they see the words on the flash card. This activity helps him to memorize the words easily.

Flashcard activity can be boring and unappealing if used ineffectively. But if used resourcefully they are great way of learning for kids.

It is generally recommended to start using flashcards with babies when they are around six months old or when they start showing an interest in objects and their surroundings. At this age, babies are starting to develop their cognitive abilities and are becoming more aware of their environment.

When using flashcards with babies, it is important to keep in mind that their attention span is still relatively short, so sessions should be kept brief and engaging. Use bright and colorful pictures that are easy to recognize and keep the sessions short and fun.

It’s also important to remember that flashcards should be used as one of many learning tools for babies, and not the sole method of learning. Playtime, reading books, and singing songs are also great ways to help babies develop their cognitive abilities and learn new things.
