DIY Meow Meow Cat Using Hearts

Hello Friends,

Today I am going to talk about how we (my toddler who is around two years old and me) made a DIY Meow Meow cart using hearts.

Usually when I ask my little one how does the cat say -  he says Meow Meow with a very cute face . I just love the way he says it, thus have named this craft DIY Meow Meow cat.

Yesterday when we were reading Brown Bear Brown Bear book  (his current favorite in books and one of the classics in list of books recommended for one year olds), I asked him what he wants to make and he said Purple cat.

For those who have not read Brown Bear book, it has pages with coloured animals (including a purple cat) and a common line. For eg brown bear brown bear what do you see. I see a Purple Cat looking at me.. And then Purple cat Purple cat what do you see and so on. Somehow my toddler loves flipping the pages and then repeating the lines.. Its one of the classics recommended by moms around the world :-).

So after this conversation thought of making a cute purple cat for him. I found this idea on Pinterest, loved it on first look and wanted to try it with my toddler.

So lets gets back to how to make DIY Meow Meow Cat Using Hearts

Materials Required to make a DIY Meow Meow Cat using Hearts (cut and paste Craft)

  • Coloured papers (Purple, Yellow, Blue)
  • Glue stick/Fevicol
  • Black and white paper for eyes, you can also use a Googly Eye
  • A pair of scissors

Process to make a DIY Purple Cat using Hearts (cut and paste Craft)

1 ) From the purple  paper, cut a heart shape. This will serve as the face of the cat.

2) Now cut a pair of comparatively small heart shape (2 hearts) from blue paper, this will serve as two ears of our cat.

3) From the blue paper cut one heart of the comparatively same size and this will form the nose of our Purple cat.

4)  For eyes you can use black and white paper or googly eye. I was scared that my toddler will mouth googly eyes so have used paper.

Well, our DIY meow meow cat is ready :-).

Note – For toddlers and kids who have not yet learnt how to use scissors,  you will need to do the cut out and you can take their help in pasting. For older kids they can cut shapes on their own.

In this craft I have done the cutting and my toddler has helped me in deciding what colours to use and applying glue stick on all pieces. Working together gives us an opportunity to talk about various colours, shapes and in this case a cat  ..

While we were sticking these hearts we sang one of our favourite rhyme “Pussy Cat Pussy Cat Where Have You Been.. ” Would love to share one more rhyme on cat:

A B C tumble down D

The cat is in the cupboard

And she can’t see me.

If you at looking for more popular rhymes find them at Ten Favourite Rhymes for kids.

You can also paste a popsicle and then use it as a puppet or just use this cat for free play or use it when singing rhymes or telling a story. This is a good activity to be done in continuation to rhymes or after reading Brown Bear book 🙂

I have not been able to take many pictures of the process as doing crafts with a toddler in itself is a big thing. Taking out a phone to click picture will mean him crying for phone instead of working with me.
