Visit to Borough Market London. One of the largest, oldest and best known food markets in London. If you are a foodie then DO visit, even if you are not then too this place is worth a visit 🙂 ..

What is Borough Market ?

Borough Market is one of the best known food market in London and also the oldest, it dates back to 13th century. Famous for its fresh produce and lively ambience – it is a must visit for all food lovers.

How to reach ?

The nearest tube station to reach here is London Bridge station rather than Borough station as the name otherwise suggests. This market is located on Southwark street and Borough High street and is just across the road from London Bridge station.

Producers from all over the country and some from other countries set up their stalls here. So there is a plethora of items here from different countries and cultures that you can try.

For vegetarians the options are comparatively lesser but what is available is awesome. You can try variety of cheeses, breads, pasta, awesome sandwiches, fresh juices and delicious cherries. The fruits here not only look good as they do in superstores but also taste delicious.

Some stalls like Chegworth Valley also offer you to book a visit to their farms on the weekend.

For those of us who are non-vegetarian and love to sample new things – there is venison burger, oysters, British and French charcuterie. Until I visited Borough market I did not even know what the term Charcuterie meant – “It is the branch of cooking devoted to prepared meat products, such as bacon, ham, sausage, primarily from pork”.

In case if you are not sure what are the items on display, do not hesitate to ask. The vendors are more than happy to tell you about their produce and how they can be used. Some even allow you to sample and purchase. But there are so many items on display and they all look so good that its difficult to decide what to sample and buy.

Most of the vendors do not have a place where you can sit and eat so you will find people standing around at corners and eating. The aroma of food and chitter chatter of people enjoying it makes the ambience very lively.
